51 GEMINID METEORS SEEN ON BOARD BOREALIS

The bridge turned off the lights on the sky deck as we settled down to watch out for the Geminid meteor shower at 11pm on 13th December. Conditions were quite poor for viewing with a bright Moon washing out fainter meteors and clouds towards the horizon. However, just where we needed the sky to be clear near to Gemini, IT WAS!

Did you see that one - no missed it

I got that one - me too

ooh that was a very bright one…

By the time we called it a night at 1.30am, guests had seen a total of 51 meteors! Quite a result. Rita from Sheffield scored the highest with 30 Geminids - a brilliant effort.

Just to mention - we had the deck as dark as we could for viewing and that made all the difference. For the telescope viewing, we were not affected by the lights around us - overcoming that myth that you cannot see anything with bright lights around - YES YOU CAN - GIVE IT A GO WITH BINOCULARS OR A TELESCOPE IF YOU HAVE ONE.
