Telescope in action on board Borealis cruise

Just back from a lovely cruise on board Fred Olsen’s Borealis to the Canary Islands.

Well played Fred - the first cruise company I have been with that has their own telescope on board. Each evening at port at 6.30pm, groups came along to view the 3 planets on show to the west and the Moon.

MARGARET AND JOHN LOOKING AT A PHOTO MARGARET HAD TAKEN OF THE MOON WITH HER MOBILE THROUGH THE EYEPIECE. NICE ONE!

We had superb views of our Moon - particularly the Apennine Mountains, Plato, Copernicus and the southern highlands. It was great to see guests who had not viewed through a telescope before go WWWOOOWWW as they saw the Moon for the first time.

ANNE VIEWING WHILST MARY HELD HER GLASS OF WINE - NEVER WITHOUT HER GLASS WAS ANNE!

The views of the 3 bright planets were very special - a spectacular large crescent of Venus, Jupiter and the Galilean moons as they altered position each night and of course Saturn and the rings - more WWWOOOWWWs!

VENUS NEAREST THE HORIZON AND JUPITER NEAR THE TOP OF THE IMAGE - AND A FAINT SATURN SLIGHTLY BELOW HALF WAY BETWEEN @ SANTA CRUZ, TENERIFE

More images of guests and staff enjoying the night sky. Around 100 guests saw the special views through the scope:-

SO GOOD - THE GIRLFRIEND HAD TO COME ALONG TOO!

MARVELLOUS!

Thank you to all who came along for all the fun AND those dressed to the nines on the formal night - you are certainly the best dressed observers I have ever seen!!!
